La Senda del Azar traces the silent revolution that has transformed olive cultivation over recent decades. Filmed across six countries and spanning agricultural territories in both hemispheres, the film follows the paths of farmers, engineers, scientists and workers who took part in a radical transformation of one of the oldest agricultural practices in the Mediterranean.
Through the expansion of the so-called “super-high-density model,” the documentary explores how a millenary tradition was progressively absorbed by new logics of mechanization, productivity and global scale. What began as an uncertain and experimental approach ultimately reshaped not only the olive oil industry, but also the relationship between landscape, technology and rural labor.
Far from presenting a purely technical or corporate narrative, La Senda del Azar unfolds as a collective memory of risk, intuition and transformation. A film about those who imagined new forms of cultivation without yet knowing the economic, social and cultural consequences they would eventually bring.
The title, inspired by a verse by Antonio Machado, points precisely to the uncertain nature of historical change: paths opened without guarantees, decisions made blindly, and processes that can only be fully understood with time.
