My book Living the Force (Descontrol 2024) meticulously reconstructs Simone Weil's experience during the Spanish Civil War, when she joined the Durruti Column in August 1936. This exhaustive research explores Weil's philosophical transformation through her direct contact with war, anarchism, and violence—elements that would profoundly mark her subsequent thought.
The investigation examines how Weil's brief but intense stay in Spain decisively influenced her writings on force, suffering, and spirituality. I analyze her complex relationship with Spanish anarchism and how, despite the criticisms she later developed, she never publicly renounced this movement. The book details how the wartime experience was fundamental in her evolution from political activism toward a more mystical and spiritual thinking.
The book functions as a historical foundation for writing the script of the feature film project The Force, thus becoming one of the expressions of the transmedia universe I am configuring with this narrative.
